Volunteer Spotlight on Myrna Sanders
Houston native Myrna Sanders has performed all genres of music in her career, everything from folk and country to R&B and rock to heavy metal.
With Houston 80′s metal band Bad Heaven, Sanders would rock the house and drew accolades from touring musicians when her group got to open for the likes of metal shredders Megadeth and Metal Church. She has since opened for Head East, Badfinger, America, and Johnny Winter.
She has been featured on the Houston Chronicle’s local music website Hand Stamp as well as the Galveston Daily News After Hours section in Sept. 2010. In the October edition of The Galveston Parrot, she was spotlighted by Zach Tate in his monthly column, ‘A Day in the Life.’
Her self-produced debut album Riches to Rags includes sweeping orchestrations and arrangements that she created, as well as especially lush vocal harmonies on both the ballads and the rockers. Her second album, yet untitled, is slated for release by the Summer of 2011 and promises to pack quite a punch with Houston rocker Joey Benz co-writing songs and playing guitar, and Dave Thomas (Kozmic Pearl drummer) on the skins.
At Love Street, however, we know and like Myrna best for her many visits to Texas Children’s Hospital and Shriners Hospital for Children and, of course, her time fronting the Love Street Band. Myrna has also been a key ambassador for the organization, promoting it both online through social media and also at some of the open mics she hosts.
You can catch Myrna twice this weekend. She will be at the First Saturday Arts Market on at 3pm on Saturday, April 2. Then she will be part of a Tonic showcase at Pearl Bar, starting at 6pm on April 3. For more information, visit her online at http://myrnasanders.com and http://reverbnation.com/myrnasanders.
